In some ways I agree with your opinion of the future of 3DS and the value of
R4. I believe the network render feature added in R3 was worth the price of
the whole upgrade, however. You and Brandon of Cyberdreams have spelled out
what I find to be a disconcerting future for this software. Like you I have a
limit as to what I consider a warranted cash outlay for a product improvement.
If all of my wishlist items were granted I'd be ecstatic, right? If I have to
pay for 30 different IPAS routines just to get these wishes I'd be furious.
However, this seems to be what it is going to take to get the features and
functionality that I desire into this software. This new open core code is a
bit of a double edged sword. More new features will be developed by more
people but I'll have to fork over more dough if I find them necessary. I think
some of us will have to weigh the accumulated total cost of 3DS plus all of the
IPAS routines versus an all in one solution perhaps on another platform. I'll
put in my R5 wishlist items and hope that the powers that be understand that I
want these items in the base package not as IPAS add-ons.
