I agree that a sense of proportion and the exercise of good sense is an important factor here. I too, have had experience with software companies who thought they could exercise monopolistic pricing strategies by charging you extra to sneeze because they felt you had already commited tens of thousands of dollars to their software and would pay whatever they asked for whatever they offered. My company slowly weaned ourselves away from their grip and now are in a position to have options for all the software we use. (By the way, that company is not in business anymore while we are still doing well.) I don't know what the relationship between Autodesk, the Yost Group and other software developers is – and I'm not particularly interested. What I am interested in is getting a professional quality software solution to a particular problem – 3D graphics. If Autodesk wants to buy software from third party developers and include it in their core product that's fine with me. Again, I don't want to know the details. All I want to know is that when I pay my money I am getting a well-integrated, professional-quality piece of software that does not have key pieces missing. Autodesk has been in business long enough to have developed a sense of proportion and should be able to exercise good judgement in this area. I'm not really here to run their marketing department for them – all I can do is vote with my wallet.
