Michael,
Following your suggestion, I tried adding GVPScsiCtrl -s to my
user-startup. It had no effect 🙁
It seems that failure to recognise the drive occurs before the
startup-sequence gets executed. If I interrupt the boot process by
holding down the right-hand mouse button, then selecting 'boot' from the
screen that appears, the hard disk is recognised with no problem even on a
cold boot.
