S-VHS gives almost 2x the resolution of VHS. You can see the difference
and it is significant enough that you can see the difference even without
doing a "side by side" type comparison.
If your composite source is outputting a high frequency signal with
quality at the hihger end (like 5.5 Mhz or better) the recording in S-VHS
will capture more detail.
If you want to go "whole hog" Sony has an industrial/high-end consumer
SVHS deck. JVC's BRS-805/605s are nice.
Or, you can save up your dough and get a low end Beta-SP for about $7500
(UVW-1800).
