I don't see NT is a contender in the markets I've been involved with. Not yet, and probably not for quite some time. If multiple developers coordinating efforts to create a new UNIX were what was going on, I might agree with you. That's not what's happening. They're doing things like working on a standards by which one binary can run on multiple platforms, not new UNIX OSes. They're working on adding new features to their individual OSes. Doing that isn't going to grind development of their individual systems to a dead halt. Each of these companies is working on new innovations that will take Microsoft a LONG time to catch up on. Realtime UNIX or Secure UNIX being two examples. Ah, well, 'nuff said. We should revisit this thread in a couple of years once the dust settles a bit. 🙂
