You have no doubt found that spherical mapping (seemingly perfect for a golf ball) bunches up the map at the poles, while a true goolf ball is consistent – correct? Try this instead – loft a semicircle (as a surface of revolution) with mapping coordinates ON. While this still won't be perfect, it will be a lot closer. – Phil
