Hello All,
I just came home from a 7 day international meeting on analytical
cytometery (measuring stuff in cells) and thought I would mention some things I
learned about.
First: A new book, Practical Flow Cytometery by Howard Shaprio, has 200 pages
covering the properies of light, how light reacts to/in different materials,
and the effect of a "camera" lens shape on the image presentation. This is a
book for biological research folks, but should be available at a good medical
research library. The references for each section are well worth attention. I
mention it for those who want a technically correct image.
Second: The high-end research being done at national labs today use high
powered laser light that can image very small things (around 10 nanometers). I
expect the bio-technology ($$$) industry to soon be looking for ways to present
this information, which will increase with these lasers being released on the
commercial market (in about 2 years, I would forcast).
Third: Lake Placid, NY is a high productivity sight from late November till May
because all you can do is work on the "CPU". Last year they had 17 FEET of snow
and temps in January/February were minus 60 (F) ….. was nice tho last week
