My 3000 was originally soft kicked. IT was a temporary measure by C= till
2.0 stabilized, which allowed them to ship product, without having to make
new roms at each revision. When 2.04 came out, the Roms that came with
it, replaced the soft kick roms, and the select at boot time capability
between 2.0 and 1.3 was lost.
After that, unless you left the 2.0, and 1.3 images on your hard drive,
there was no difference, between the earlier 3000's and the later 3000's
as far as rom handling was concerned. Personally I would have like the
soft kick to have remained, that was a simple disk update would have been
available.
