Tom –
A good drive is the Micropolis 2217A 1.6 Gig IDE hard drive. This will hold up
to 15 minutes of animation – although you'll be most satisfied with the
throughput using only the first 2/3 of the disk.
Hard Drives International, which advertises in nearly all the trades, is now
offering the drive for under $900. Be sure to get the IDE, though. The PAR will
only run with IDE drives (and besides, I haven't heard good things about the
SCSI version of this drive in terms of reliability).
Haven't seen you in one of our 3D Studio User Group meetings – keepin' busy, I
suppose? Might want to drop in on us in November, we'll be demo-ing R4 and,
hopefully, Razor Pro – a Windows-based non-linear digital editor that will work
with native PAR files directly!
Talk to you soon.
