Their is a file on Asoft that converts dem to 3DS I think it called dem23ds you will not get the vistapro map to work well . but one way is to set the VP camera from the top view render it ,save the map and use it in 3DS. The thing to remember is to detach the top faces of the mesh [make it object01]and align mapping cords from top. next map the remaning object from the front view . Turn the mapping cord y -45 degrees and apply to object02. I have the best results using Displace and not Vistapro.
