To: All,
NEW UPLOAD..based on Autodesk's CDK (Cyberspace Development Kit) NAVFlyer.ZIP file in the Software Development Kits Library This is a true 3D interactive flyer that uses the keypad only for navigation. It has the ability to lockon to an object to orbit easily, shaded and wireframe mode, and online help. The registered version ($49) comes with faster performance (Rendermorphics renderer), and as of yesterday, some very elementary collision detection to stop you from flying through the walls. The registered version can also run inside of AutoCAD. Is there any interest out there to see this as an IPAS routine inside 3DStudio? Note: we ARE trying to get the faster renderer in the free version and will post it when possible to do so. Included in the demo dxfs is a MUSEUM that needs more low polygon sculptures. If anyone is interested in contributing please upload either your sculpture or put it in the museum yourself and upload it for others to enjoy!!! We would love to see how creative this forum's members can be in low polygon modeling. The sculptures in the museum now run from 38 to around 70 polygons each. For that matter, if you have a more complex model that is just great to fly, let us see it! We can fly it without the museum included (like the other two sample dxfs in the .zip, the Venus di Milo statue from Viewpoint and the Sextant model from AutoCAD. I know that is not anywhere near what 3D Studio users are used to modeling, but we have found 3D Studio an excellent modeler for low polygon modeling as well. Be sure to set your step sizes down and weld as many joints as you can to eliminate multiple polygons on a single flat surface (or anything that looks like it). Also try deleting faces that are not seen, like the bottom face on a box that sits on the floor. It is a new experience modeling for real-time environments (yes I know this can't really be called real-time yet…, but CDK is getting closer as we speak). For those times when simple space planning or non- photo realistic animations can work, this method requires no rendering times. Just hit the record button on the tape deck and fly. We like to use the Spactec SpaceController because we can fly in 6 degrees of freedom simultaneously, with some practice. It can be found in the Software Develpment Kits Library (although it is NOT a software deveopment tool). Nobody could figure out where else to put it right now. PLEASE RESPOND with your opinions, contributions and questions. We need to know what you think. Thanks a lot……Angela Pate P.S. Any opinions on any other section to post this or is everything usually read by everyone?
