Autodesk Forums Policies and Procedures
Introduction
This document describes forum rules and policies that will
help you in interacting with the forum sysops and other
forum members, and will help you better understand how the
forums work. The policies are divided among messages,
libraries, and the Autodesk Display Page.
Messages
Please post your technical questions on the forums rather
than sending them to Autodesk employees through CompuServe
Mail. Posting your questions on the forum exposes them to
the widest possible audience. Autodesk employees are often
busy answering questions on the forums, so they may not have
time to devote to individual questions that they receive
through CompuServe Mail.
You may post a private message on the forum to the forum
Sysop by addressing it to *sysop. The message will be
seen only by the forum Primary Sysop, so, as with the case
of CompuServe Mail, you are not likely to receive timely or
numerous responses, and you may miss good information.
Private messages, either on the forums, or through
CompuServe Mail, should only be used to communicate
confidential information to the sysop or other Autodesk
employee, or if you are asked to by the sysop or Autodesk
employee.
Please devote some time to determining the most appropriate
section to post your messages. Many forum members scan
particular sections that address issues in which they have
expertise. If you post your messages in a section not
related to the topic of your message, you may not get timely
or complete answers.
Do not include your software serial number, or, if you are a
dealer or developer, your dealer or developer number in your
messages. These numbers should appear only in private
messages sent to Autodesk employees through CompuServe Mail
or posted to *sysop on the forums.
The sysop will see that all questions posted on the forums
are answered within 24 hours (not including weekends or
holidays).
Messages posted to the forums "scroll off" of the message
board in about 10 days. If you ask a question on the
forum, do not let much time pass without checking for responses,
lest you miss some that exit the message board.
Autodesk employees will not be responsible for answering
questions about third party software, or unsupported
hardware or operating environments.
We expect that forum members will abide by general standards
of public decency. Vulgarity, profanity, explicit or implied,
and open and continuous hostility will not be tolerated.
Autodesk reserves the right to restrict access to the forums
for members who violate these guidelines. We ask all members
to use their real first and last name as their name on this forum.
Please do not use a "handle" or nickname. Business names may
be indicated on the signature line if desired. Keep signature lines
o a maximum of two lines – name and business if desired.
Libraries
Please try to upload your files to the appropriate library
section.
If you are posting an update to a program, please upload the
update in the same library and with the same file name as
the previous version, or delete the old version after you
have uploaded the update.
If you are uploading a demo version of your program, please
include the word demo in the file's title and as one of the
file's keywords.
Files uploaded to the forum will be checked by the forum
sysops for virus contamination and functionality. If a bug
or other problem is found in the program, you will be
notified by the sysop through CompuServe Mail and asked to
fix the problem and reupload the file. Barring problems,
files will be available for download within one business day
Library 1 of the AutoCAD and Library 9 of the Multimedia
forums will contain index and catalog files that list the
contents of all files on the forums. The index file will
contain a list of all files posted on the forum within the
last 30 days, and will be updated as needed.
Autodesk Display Page
Above the forum level, Autodesk will maintain a display page
where you will be able to find information previously found
on the forums:
Autodesk press releases
Product price lists
Product descriptions
Orphan dealer list
Areas where you will be able to contact Autodesk Customer
Service and enter product wishlist suggestions.
