This was really the root of my question. That is to say,
the models don't necessarily mix (say MS-Windows vs X11, or C++ vs
MS-Windows), although similar in ways, and so, although I believe I
understand the differences, I don't pretend to be a GUI expert,
so it never hurts to continue to ask.
