As to authoring programs, itsa coming, itsa coming! Especially as we
gain experience in our Interactive Television authoring and playback
tool developments.
I believe some people were having problems with the MicroTouch driver
used on AGA based machines. CEI sells a complete MicroTouch
touchscreen kit with monitor (CEI 1962).
FYI, recently, Microtouch purchased the technology for the Visage
touchscreen system. Instead of using a capacitive or resistive
sensor, which is installed in the front bezel of the picture tube,
the Visage uses "force vector" technology. The monitor sits on top
of the Visage unit and using highly sensitive pressure sensors, it
triangulates the coordinates. Unlike capacitive or resistive
methods, there is no drift and therefore no periodic recalibration to
be done.
The benefit of the Visage, it is non-invasive, meaning that you
don't have to tear apart a monitor to put in the touchscreen sensor.
You can use any monitor, even a TV, up to 80 lbs. If the monitor
breaks down, no problem, just add the new monitor, recalibrate and
voila! You're back in business with minimum down time. From what I
understand, they are going to re-introduce the product at the next
COMDEX. We'll see.
