I guess it all boils down to a matter of opinion, but some things in MS are
very inconvenient, imo. In a film cutting room, if you're well organized, you
always have your trims right at hand. In MS, you don't. I'd hope for at least
the flexibility of a film cutting room on my computer.
Yes ofcause it is highly subjective. And there's always any thing to improve.
But as I wrote, I didn't ever worked in a cutting room and therefore I started
from scratch with Movieshop. And remember: the people which VLM is designed for
are mostly like me.
And for the cutting-room-biased people I must state, that a DNL system like VLM
works completely different from an analog editing suite. And the software has
to follow this very different concept which Movieshop IMHO does in a very
convenient way.
But You are right, the trimming should be possible in the scene window, not
only in the timeline. But if You would send a suggestion report to MS, may be
they will implement this in further versions if demanded by many people.
I work with VLM for a long time. I started in the last weeks of the last Year
with the Version 1.2 of MS which didn't had audio synchronizing and tended to
crash. In January I got Version 2.1 which was the first full featured and
stable MS-release.
While fiddling around and producing the first videos with VLM, I discovered
some bugs and inconveniences and I sent them per fax to MS along with a few
suggestions and I did also some telephone calls.
And as I've been told by some of our clients who brought a VLM system by us
(from us?), MS offers a very good hotline and support, At least in germany.
They dont't have an official email address by now altough one of the
programmers has a private account. But this will hopefully change in the next
future… 🙂
Sent them Your suggestions, they want to know what the people want. If it is
worth considering they will probably implement it one day.
Remember: Lightwave has become what it is (should I write: "became what it is"
or how? I should consider strongly to spend my next holidays in US or at least
in britain to raise my skills in english 🙂 in this days only because the
animators send their suggestions to NewTek and so the programmers did know
which problems occur when people do a real work with the product, not only
playing with it as most beta testers do (it is also a question of time).
But unfortunately there are still some bad concepts, esp. the file
handling/requesters and some. But that is another story…
