About a year ago I had a similar-sounding problem — tracked it down to the '93
model Diamond Viper VLB I was using. Replaced the card and all was fine.
BTW, that Diamond was replaced under warranty but never used since I'd bought
another in the meantime. If you're interested, email me for a good price…
