If you mean they puposely did so, I'd question the context.
If you mean some part of the code did so, I wouldn't doubt it.

I think you mean that because the round off errors can build up
as the expressions are more involved?
True, but it's so easy to get those extra digits out of pi, why not just
use them? I once knew it to 51 places (wonder if I still do), a couple
(in Princeton U?) knows it to 1000 places, and besides, it can
be calculated.
