Getting closer by inches as it gets stranger!!!
(Are you listening, Asha? Ueli? Paul?)
When Dr. Kuester said his VuePrint worked at uuencoding files, I decided to ask
my friend to send me a file one more time. He did, and this time, I noticed
two separate files: section 1/2 and section 2/2, and the first one had the
"begin" line, and all had "M"s at the front of the line. All well and good.
EXCEPT… all the lines were of unequal length! So, I called my friend over
the phone, and he assured me that his lines were equal in length. We then
compared each line character for character for the first three lines, and what
did we discover as a pattern? While all his lines were equal when he sent
them, when I received them there were random insertionss of two characters: 3D
There were 3D's scattered all over the file in just about every line. I then
took the files into WordPerfect and Search&Replaced the 3D occurences with
nothing, and BAM!, my lines were exactly even (except for one. Grrr!) I tried
to load it into ADPro, and it gave me an error message alerting me to a corrupt
GIF file, but at least it did recognize it as a GIF. When I continued to try
to display what it had in memory, it showed a black screen with a single
horizontal line of colored pixels at the very top.
So, what do you suppose is introducing the 3D's into his sends? Also, is the
=0D I see in lines near the top and bottom of the files the carriage returns
you told me to remove? I did a test with them left in and removed with the
same results.
