Thanks for your prompt reply What is even more interesting to me is that if I boot the computer with the DPaintIV disk in DF0 . . . everything works fine (although I have already run into some "out of memory" messages while trying to put together even fairly simple animations). I used DPaint Installation utility to install on my hard drive (which is partitioned, but the way, into DH1 and DH0). If I double click DPaintIV icon, it opens without animation capabilities. If, however, the DPaint floppy is in either drive, the animation is enabled. Seems as though just before DPaint opens, the floppy sends a little string of information to the computer. Thanks again for your help – if you have any ideas . . . please let me know. Ted
