David- You've got me thinking. I would almost.swear that when I use gshape I get back.ground as well as foreground overwriting. whatever was previously on the screen. In fact, I save and reload entire screens by using sshape and gshape, and I have an Oops! function built into the program I'm working on which is nothing more than sshape on the whole screen just prior to executing any screen change, followed by gshape if the user elects to Oops! The screens that I'm manipul- ating like that have all kinds of "on" pixels in them – some generated while in the "OR" mode as well as others generated in the default mode 0. Thus, it seems that what you're saying doesn't work at least in my copy of ABasiC – since a gshaped screen always completely overwrites what it's gshaped on top of.
