Jeffrey: The UVW-1800 Betacam SP editor is a stripped down recorder deck with many accessable features. You will need an edit controller to get at many of the UVW's features. Need a Procamp? The UVW has one but you will need an external remote box to access it. Need to shuttle around to find a location on tape? You'll need a remote jog/shuttle control for this feature too. While you can do straight recording of your animations to a UVW-1800 you will need some sort of RS-422 edit controller to join video segments without the usual glitch between edits. The SVHS pro decks offer, for the same money, much more control built in but lack the very high end video quality that component betacam SP offers.
