John,
If you have illustrator 88 do the following:
1. Type in the one-word logo.
2. 'Paint' the type with NO fill and NO stroke and check the 'mask' box.
3. Create a blend using narrow rectangles a little wider than the width of the
type from 100% black to white. Make sure the blend starts slightly higher than
the type and ends slightly lower than the baseline.
4. Group the rectangles.
5. Paste the grouped rectangles 'IN FRONT' of the type and then group
evrything.
6. Type in the one-word logo again.
7. 'Paint' the type with NO fill and stroke it with .5 100% black.
8. Drag the type with the control point and let it snap into place directly on
top of the other type. Make sure you grab the control point and let it snap
into place or it may not line up perfectly.
9. Don't worry if you preview and don't get the results you were looking for,
however it WILL print exactly what you want.
If you have any problems on masks, or blends check out the manual.

Bruce Carillon
