HardDrive Speeds
Need some help here guys,
I just hooked up my HD setup to my 500, which includes a C-ltd
controller, Seagate ST-277N, I'm running SiDos 3.0 with 1.3, no problems
during setup o1=;ZcJYel formatting. I set up a 32 meg partition (blank) just
to experiment with interleave, buffers and such.
Now comes the interesting part. With an interleave of 2 (recommended)
25 buffers (type 1) results of diskperfa were reads-240k, writes-50k. Good
read speed but poor write speed.
With an interleave of 3, same buffers, results were reads-190k,
writes-75k. Slower reads but faster writes, huh? But it gets better still.
With an interleave of 4, same buffers, results were reads-140k,
writes-163k! By now I'm totally confused. Why are the reads going down but the
writes are going up? Is this normal?
I also tried interleaves of 0, 1, and 5 with all speeds falling off
considerably. Also, each time diskperfa was performed the drive was
re-formatted with AmigaDos format using FFS and Quick. The computer was also
re-booted and the drive was re-mounted. I also tried more buffers than 25, like
30, 50, 100 no increase at all.
Now for the 64 k question, how do I optimize both read and write speeds?
Any thoughts on what else I could tweak (just LOVE to tweak!).
