I just finished speaking to the product manager for our IBM PC fonts. I
explained to him the problems you are having and he believes this is a
problem with the Windows font mapper (I know you have been following
Richard Liu's problem and yours actually may fit into the same category).
When you pick a font, the font mapper goes through a list of variables
(aspect ratio, resolution, size, font) and determines from what you have
selected, what the best choice is to display. Unfortunately, the aspect
ratio of our fonts is not exactly the same as that of the VGA monitor and
thus is it determined by the mapper that a screen font other than that
which you have chosen, is the best choice to display for you.
There really is not a solution to this problem at the moment. If we had
more screen font sizes available, that would probably take care of it
because the closest match would be the font you have selected. When you
change the page view, the "best fit" (as far as the mapper is concerned)
changes.
Also, I have asked that Richard send me a copy of the WIN.INI file you are
sending to him, or maybe you wouldn't mind shooting it over to me. It is
interesting to me that you are not having the problem in Excel, but you are
having a problem in PageMaker. Apparently, the Windows font mapper works in
conjunction with the application and the results are not consistent.
