DOWNLOADING
John,
I see Betty has already given you instructions on downloading, so here's some
further tips.
The first file to download is ARC.EXE, found in Lib 4. Almost all the files
here are in ARChive format, which compresses and bundles files to speed
downloading. You should also REAd ARC.HLP in Lib 1 (and while you're there,
BRO the lib. There's a lot of help files there, and they might answer
questions about things you haven't hit yet)
Also, I advise you to look into Access! (ACC142.ARC, lib 4) or CoComm
(COCOM.ARC, same lib) as they are a vast improvement over AmigaTerm. (I
recommend Access! first, as that seems to be the most popular) They also
support QB protocol, which is a lot faster than Xmodem and easier to use.
If you intend to be using CIS's forums a lot, look into Whap! (lib 16), as it
will make your forays into CIS a lot cheaper and easier. It's in Demo form,
but very usable as is.
Also, you're going to be using CLI a lot, so if you don't already have any
documentation on it, I _highly_ recommend you purchase some reference material
on it. Rob Peck's book, from AmigaWorld Magazine, or Bantam's AmigaDOS Manual,
2nd Edition, or one of the Compute! books on DOS/CLI will go a long way toward
your unlocking the mysteries of the machine.
