Why not use Charlie Gibbs' excellent assembler from our libraries? It is
really very good. You would need the includes from the Native Developers'
Kit from Commodore, but that is only $20. There is also a good debugger
over in Library 6, as well.
As for books, I think the one from Compute, written by Dan Wolfe, is
probably as good as you will find. Abacus has one or two, and there is the
Commander book from TAB – but that one is mostly about the 68000, and only
gets to a little assembler programming way at the back! The Compute book
is called COMPUTE'S MACHINE LANGUAGE PROGRAMMING GUIDE, and I certainly
found it to be better than the others for my efforts.
