Well, if you are interested in a cheaper but less general solution,
someone was advertizing a cable that hooked up to the video port on the
back of the amig passed through the RGB stuff to your regular monitor, and
sent other data on to an IBM monocrome monitor. It claimed to be able to
display interlaced viio without the flicker (a function of the diference in
color and white phosphors.
If this actually works (I want to find out, too), then you could
get very sharp monocrome graphics for AMax, which doesn't support color
anyway.
