Bill, I have only Low-Level formated one of my hard drives and that was two years ago because of some read-write errors. I have NEVER tried to LOW-LEVEL format and a RESTORE for optimization for two reasons: 1st, LOW-LEVEVL formating takes at least several HOURS to do; 2nd, it is my understanding (I could be wrong) that the way Amiga DOS writes a file to disk is in itself fragmented, and therefore an OPTIMIZATION program is much faster (45 min. compared to 4 hours) and writes to the disk in de-fragmented fashion. Suggestion: ask Don Curtis he seems to be the resident Guru on Hard Drives. — Gary Lucas —
