Keith, Most monitors (or TVs for that fact) have both a width and horizontal linearity control inside them. Width obviously adjusts the width, the linearity adjusts the horizontal sweep waveform so that the beam is swept at a uniform speed across the entire horizontal line. Thus the size of a letter 'm' (or any other letter) is the same physical width no matter where it is in a line. Monitors that are out of linearity would show the text "scrunched" at some point on the line while it would appear "stretched" at another point. In any event, horizontal linearity also affects the width. The two controls should be tweaked one after the other until the width is both satisfactory and linear. Don
