I GOOD dealer should FIGHT for your sales, and not expect people to buy
from them on location alone.. When I buy a car I don't buy from the
dealer who says they have the best service department, I buy from the
dealer with the lowest price.. Why?? Because service is difficult to base
a decision on, it is fleeting at best, and their is no way that I have seen
to measure it..
Example:
My friend with a A-500 gets great service from a local dealer.. Yet I was
told it would take 2 weeks before they would even look at my bad
bridgeboard.. Who is right?
I think that when you buy a product you get what you pay for, usually.
But I have gotten the service I need from Computability.. I got my hard
drive & controller (80 meg) for $450, and I received it in less than 3
days.. The local dealer wanted $800 and at least a week… I don't need
their lousy service and therfore I do not pay for it! If I were to buy a
Video Toster I would pay for their service, because I know nothing about
them. When I need a software package (like DTP) I buy from a local dealer,
because I want to try it before I buy it.
This is a little wordy but what I am trying to say is, many people buy
Mail-Order when they need support that a Mail Order company cannot provide,
and many people buy from local dealers, dealers who would rather support PC
clones then the Amazing Amiga.. I support the people who deserve support..
And I support them with my dollars, be they local or mail order..
