Software Piracy
OK, I'll bite. CIS in most cases doesn't pay for the network connection
between your local number and the main system. These connections are
provided by probably telenet or tymnet, and the costs are taken from your
CompuServe connect charges. So at least that portion of your payments
doesn't go to CompuServe at all. Also, the messages you leave take up disk
space, which, to a system like this, has a real cost. Additionally, you'll
have to prove to me that it doesn't increase operating costs (electricity,
maintenance, etc.) for each and every user on the system; i.e. that adding
a user at any given time doesn't increase the use of electricity, decrease
the lifespan of equipment, etc. You imply these assertions, but you
provide no evidence for them.
How is that for an argument?
