Help with TDI
As the Manager, Employee Development for my company, I am considering
making a recommendation that we use more Technology-Delivered Instruction
(TDI), beginning next year. We are now using Phoenix to deliver training
to 1400 employees in three states at mainframe terminals, in addition to
classroom and self-administered (text and audio-tape based) formats.
However, certain objectives would be better served if we could add motion
and sound to our CBT; this is not possible with mainframe Phoenix. More
flexible CBT might also make it possible to deliver all or part of certain
other courses now being taught in the classroom.
To make a better recommendation, I could use some information about what
others in similar situations are doing. In particular, if your company has
already committed to moving to multi-media or other forms of TDI, I would
really appreciate your answers to these questions:
1) What hardware and software are you using, and why did you choose it?
2) What kinds of learning objectives/content are you addressing with
TDI?
3) What are you finding different about authoring in these more flexible
media as opposed to authoring in conventional CBT or to designing
courses for classroom delivery?
4) Which department manages the development effort? the delivery
effort?
5) Who does the design? CBT designers? A/V specialists? a team?
6) Any information about estimating costs and development time? How
about
the amount of "sunk" cost (equipment suite and space)?
7) Who made the decision to move to TDI? What did you have to do to
encourage/support/justify that decision?
Thanks for any help or information that you can provide. I am most
grateful for the chance to learn from your experiences!
