You're right… but the emphasis has been elsewhere in marketing and
development. In my opinion, they sold out instead of dragging the MSDOS
world kicking and screaming in to the future, they chose compatibility, and
mediocrity, to support the short term stability of the stockholders
interests. SHORT TERM. Maybe I'm being to hard on them. I mean it is
probably a nightmare to try and get 80 million users to change operating
systems.
In comparison, AmigaDos has been fortunate enough to walk the tight rope of
compatibility and advancement… no easy task.
