Well, I thought WP _did_ make as much use of the machine's abilities as makes sense for a word processor … it is fully mouse drivable, or keyboardable too; it uses windows and multi-tasking very effectively; it uses requesters and menus in a fairly sensible way … it certainly isn't "flash" and so it doesn't use unecessary gadgets. It doesn't use fancy graphical (i.e. true WYSIWYG) output … but then again, it's a word processor and not a DTP package. Adding proportional fonts and having true WYSIWYG would not only be a very complicated business (since you'd have to have screen font representations and metric files for all your printer's fonts … and that would be a nightmare) but would also slow it down considerably.
