I just have to jump into the fray… I regularly submit manuscripts to
a variety of publications, and, on the Amiga, WordPerfect is the
*only* word processor available for the Amiga that allows me to
provide manuscripts which are compatible with "industry standard"
machines. Furthermore, I have an IBM portable (there being no Amiga
portable) which I use when I'm away from home (which is a lot of the
time). I have LetterPerfect on that machine, and, when I come home,
I find it a simple matter to convert the work I've done (using AWrite
on my Bridgeboard) and proceed with my work at home. I came up
through the ranks, so to speak, with my computers, so, for me,
gaining failiarity with WP was a simple matter after struggling with
some of the products we had for the C64. I'm teaching my kids to use
it. They go to French school, and the French dictionary on WP is
absolutely the best available. They are 12 and 15, and certainly not
computer whiz's, so if they can figure it out, I have trouble
understanding how it could be difficult for anyone. A couple of
asides here: 1) When I was writing mainly for Amiga publications,
it didn't matter so much if my files would transfer to other
computers or not. Now that I'm moving into the environmental and
health areas, this factor is crucial. 2) If I were recommending a
"general" word processor to a "typical" Amiga user, I would recommend
ProWrite – not WP – because it's everything a word processor should
be: period. 3) TEX is undoubtedly the best typesetting program on
the market, but I find it intimidating. I find, for my purposes, that
both Professional Page and PageStream do an outstanding job. As a
matter of fact, I've been told by PageMaker users that they prefer
these programs for both ease of use and power. I WISH the Amiga were
more widely used in the publishing industry. Sure, I'd like to be
able to take a purely Amiga approach to writing. That's not going to
happen though. ….Nancy (Baud Banditing from Canada)
