On the car analogy — someone tried again today (11/19) — just to take it to its extreme … I think most people do want to go for a test drive before taking it home for keeps. Also, I think most people do take a long look when a Lamborgini (sp) drives by — perhaps fantasize even. On the issue of education/stds/prevention … it seems we have been attempting to convince our children and our society that the issues of promiscuity/aids/pregnancy could be avoided entirely if they simply adhered to abstainence or monogomous relationships for most of Western history. So far that message has not appeared to be getting through. Perhaps it is time to recognize that sex education in the home is not working for a good chunk of the population, that the society we live in is very much influced by sex in the media (the Swedish Bikini team might be great for Old Milwaukee but there is another message there), and that teenagers are going to ignore parents and make poor judgements and need to be aware of both the consequences of their actions and their various alternatives.
