Liberals always argue that raising taxes is necessary to reduce the deficit. Conservatives always argue that raising taxes always results in more spending and _no_ deficit reduction. The recent tax increase has proved beyond a doubt that the conservatives are right. The largest tax increase in history has not only failed to reduce the deficit, it has increased the deficit to record annual levels, just as conservatives predicted.
