Yes, it is a terrible catch-22. The hardware vendors don't want to write
drivers for every application ever written, and the software vendors don't
want to write drivers for every piece of hardware on the planet. You can't
blame either one of them.
I know! Let's dump it on the Operating System guys! Yeah, they'll do it.
OS/2 does it. Windows 3.0 does it. Sun and Apple do it (if it's their
hardware/software). It might work if we could all agree on The Right Way
To Do It for more than five minutes.
