Last year I worked on several parametric 3D spiral routines – which I call "Spiralitis". I gave up because I did not know enough about spring and screw manufacturing and could not access such expertise. Cany you send any drawings of the springs you have in mind? I especially want to know what the typical beginnings and ends of springs (how they are cut or formed). I want to know if a sectional cut through a spring is circular or elliptical. And do you have any illustration as to the geometry of a spring that is in the process of being squeezed or stretched. Or is there a textbook about springs? Currently my routines are surface oriented – but I could look at AME possibilities. I had a lot of fun with variable radius springs, springs along splined 3Dplines, multi-thread springs that spiraled along the spiral, variable profile springs and lots of other good stuff.
