#Drivering Me Crazy
Hello!
I'm the not-so-proud owner of a Chinon CDA-431 CD-ROM drive that I
purchased last January from Relax Technology. I use the drive with a Mac
IIsi, and plan to start using it with a Gateway 2000 486/33C as well.
Initially, I had lots of noise and SCSI termination problems, but some
servicing from Relax seemed to fix those problems. Now I've run into the
drive's 8K buffer, which limits its usefulness for either MPC or QuickTime
(not to mention MacroMind Director…).
Here's my question: If the key issue is buffering, why can't the host's
device driver be written to include a 64K buffer, or won't that fix the
problem? I'd really prefer to fix my existing drive, rather than scrap it
and buy a new one with an adequate buffer size. Any suggestions?
