Jonathan, The Sony BVU-150 is a portable U-Matic SP field recorder designed to be hooked up to the camera of your choice. It is not an editing deck by any stretch of the imagination. It was designed purely for the capture of video data outside of the studio environment. The time code generator lays down longitudinal time code which can be utilized by in-studio editing decks and edit controllers equipped to utilize time code and the U-Matic Sp format. If you need sucha deck, it may be a good purchase. If field capture of video data with a camera crew is not your intent, I would pass on it, and /or tell friends that you may have about it so that it can end up in the hands of someone who will use it forits intended purpose.
