Good thing you guys are working on a Gun control policy down there! Guys, it's not that big a deal. Here's my experience (SBpro owner, non SBpro drive.) I bought the SPpro, and then considered the drive after. A good deal came up on a sony drive, and so I picked it up. If you buy a drive from anybody but creative labs, you need another controller card. No big deal for me, but if you only have one slot left, you may want to think about it a little. When you buy a drive from creative labs, you get a special little patch cord, which takes that audio tracks, and routes them through the SBPro. I was suprised how difficult it was to get this little $10 cable, but eventually, I got it. There is no "functional" difference between buying a drive from creative labs or anyone else. I believe you should spend a little money and get a decent one, but, that's up to the buyer. If you intend on playing audio CD's or hooking the audio through the SBPro (this is the normal setup), then make sure you ask the people selling you the drive if you get the audio patch cable for the SBpro in the deal. As I mentioned above, the creative labs drive connects to the SBpro, and the SBpro acts as the controller. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, no other drive can use the SBPro as a controller.
