TAR is probably the only method for tape backup or at least it is always
supported on all software. Even though it started out on UNIX systems, it
is available on probably all other computers. Atari ST, Amiga, IBM PC
.. it simple and it works. Also many it helps when moving data from one
platform to another. Many times one would take a tape drive to one system
and backup all the files and then take to another system to restore it.
This is a great way for getting data for making a CD-ROM.
