Harry, GPFax is based on a preliminary specification for Class II FAX modems, not very many FAX modems work under Class II since it was an unratified standard, that has since changed…but I do believe it has now been ratified. If that's true, then Class II is no longer a "moving target" and modem manufacturers can program Class II compatability into the modem's ROMs. Software will have to change to meet the changed spec. The vast majority of FAX modems are Class I compatabile at this time. To the best of my knowledge, no current FAX modem is fully compliant with Class II since I don't believe Class II was finally ratified until about a month ago. Some, like the Supra, are compliant with an older draft version of Class II…but I strongly suspect they'll change to become fully compliant with the final standard. As to what's the difference between Class I and Class II, in a nutshell, Class I does most of the work, including timing checks, in software on the computer. Class II transfers all that critical stuff into the modem itself, thus taking a significant load off the computer itself. Don
