NT fast? You've *got* to be kidding! NT is slow and huge and still has
the same horrible interface as Windows 3.1, at least when running on any
normal machine. (We've got it running on a 50Mhz 486 system with graphics
accelerator and 16 MB RAM. It takes a third of the 250M Hard drive, and
*needs* all those 16 MB to run.) IMHO, If NT ever manages to get
anywhere, it will be in a limited niche as a server for Windows 3.1
systems, at least for the first half of this decade. Ask me again in a
year (assuming it's released by then, which I consider a 50/50 chance),
and I may have changed some of these opinions, but as it stands now, the
only reason we're even considering NT is because it's not too much of a
stretch to keep our options open.
NT *does* appear faster on the non-Intel platforms it's designed for
(R4000 systems only, right now…), but considering that virtually nobody
is producing those platforms (anyone remember ACE?) I don't see much
future for it right now in that arena.
