No tech support:
I guess I wasn't clear. I can't call any CBM number and get a straight
answer to a technical question. One like "is it true that the 4.1
Motherboard is listed as 'non-standard' by CBM and therefore hardware that
is compatible with CBM standards will not be compatible with the 4.1
motherboard?"
Both NewTek and GVP have told me this is true. I have no recourse but to
believe them since there is no CBM tech support other than through a
dealer who will only charge me $50/hour to get an answer to the question
since I didn't buy my machine from him. (As I mentioned, the dealer I did
buy from is out of business.) Ive also never heard of a Mac or IBM dealer
being such an AH about answering a question.
Re: IDE –
CBM had to have know that most people (at least initially) that bought
4000's would be Amiga users. Those users have SCSI devices already. SCSI
is also a Mac standard and is showing up more frequently for "power users"
on clone systems and clone systems running unix derivatives. SCSI prices
have gotten fairly reasonable. This particular decision did not show a
lot of sensitivity to the users or developers.
