Yes, you're right…no one needs real multi-tasking <grin>.
Seriously, yes, it's true, an awful lot of MS-DOS stuff is doing simple
tasks that would still run fine on an old XT with MS-DOS 3.0. There's no
need, push or desire for them to upgrade to anything. But there's an awful
lot who are finding out that integrated packages under Windows are
improving their productivity…and they want more.
As to why IBM's underpowered/high priced machines affect the
current view of OS/2…fairly simple. IBM has left a bad taste in the
mouths of lots of users and they flat won't deal with anything that has
IBM's name on it…hardware or software.
I honestly believe that OS/2 would have a much better chance at
success if it had someone else's name on it…almost anyone else's name.
