IDE may be the culprit, but my system (A3000,10MB RAM) comes to its knees
every time I use AutoPilot with LightWave rendering in the bkgd.
I have the same problem: The buffer fills, and everything halts as it gets
written off to the hard disk (very slowly).
I had assumed it was related to my low-memory condition (only 800K CHIP
RAM, 600 BYTES FAST avail right now). I was thinking maybe the OS had
flushed the 256K disk buffer I allocated for the work partition or
something. (But, what do I know :^)
IDE was DEFINITELY a STUPID choice, for other reasons.
Mainly because they've hosed ALL their previous users who bought into the
SCSI format.
(When Apple came out with the Quadra, they didn't get rid of SCSI, they
ADDED Ethernet! Come on guys, we're going the wrong direction here!)
I'll keep my 3000, put in a 3rd party '040, and wait for the 5000.
C= really dropped the ball on this one. (So, what else is new? :^)
