CDK
<<if we are going to be using vc++2.0 to compile and run cdk apps, wouldn't we
already have win32s files? i think they are shipped with the vc++2.0 disks.>>
Absolutely, as you suggest the Win32s extensions are included with VC++ 2.0.
In fact, they are also shipped with CDK R2. But, for those that haven't
purchased VC++ or CDK yet, and also haven't run any 32-bit Windows applications
(Mosaic, ACAD R13, etc.), there's a good chance they may not have Win32s.
For the enthusiast who wants to download a CDK demo and doesn't have Win32s,
perhaps we can put a pointer to a net location where they can get it if they
need it. I bet that would solve it. Sound reasonable?
<<also, regarding NT. Will the cdk stuff take advantage of SMP (multiple
processors)?>>
Currently, the application isn't design to. However. it's certainly on the
wish list.
<<last question (i promise): what would you consider to be the best graphics
card for accelerating the cdk rendering?>>
There are a lot of good 3D accelerator products hitting the market out there.
We are working with several companies to develop accelerated solutions.
Testing is still in progress so I don't have results yet. Personally, I like
the concept of these integrated 2D/3D accelerator cards in the ~$500 price
range. I'm familiar with the Matrox, Cirrus Logic and 3D Labs Glint chip
products. My opinion is that they're all good. Drivers for the CDK should
start to be available after production units begin shipping.
