I've had similar problems and I've come up with the following test so
I don't get any surprises later. Just render your images as a
background, with no geometry, and don't save to disk. This wouldn't
take much longer than just viewing each image, so it's not too bad.
Use an .ifl of your list of images. If it has problems with an image
you'll get that message. You can then make a note of it. Then remove
that line from the .ifl and continue the rendering at the same frame
with the render range option. Works for me and requires little
intervention.
